Our client had purchased this old farm building earlier this year with exciting plans to modernise and convert it into an energy efficient modern family home. The 5kW solar system will generate around 5MWh of electricity per year and with the addition of a Tesla Powerwall home battery and backup gateway the client is now able to self power his home.
A self-powered home combines solar energy and Powerwall to independently power your home day and night. During the day, solar panels may produce more energy than your home uses. Powerwall stores that excess solar energy and makes it available on demand, even after the sun has set. Through the Tesla app, you will have full visibility into your self-powered home.
Powerwall can detect an outage, disconnect from the grid, and automatically restore power to your home in a fraction of a second. You will not even notice that the power went out. Your lights and appliances will continue to run without interruption. If you have solar and Powerwall, then solar energy will continue to power your home and recharge Powerwall. Without Powerwall, solar will shut down during an outage.
A challenge with this installation was how to mount the solar array on the very beautiful slate tiled roof chosen by the client. The solution was the Solar Limpet roof hook system, which our team are trained to install. Solar limpets are quick and easy to install and are completely weatherproof so flashing is not required. Other advantages are that no tiles need to be removed and cutting or notching of tiles is not required which reduces breakages by 90-100%.
